Standard test method for jaw crusher gouging abrasion test
Covers a laboratory jaw crusher procedure to rank metallic materials and others for resistance to gouging abrasion using a prescribed charge of crushed rock, producing comparative wear data for materials selection and R&D.
Test method
A small laboratory jaw crusher is loaded with sized hard-rock feed and run under controlled conditions; mass loss of jaw plates (or defined wear coupons) is measured and reported relative to a reference material.
Specimen requirements
Jaw plates or test coupons, feed material grading, and number of crushing cycles shall follow the standard’s specified dimensions and conditioning so results are comparable between laboratories.
Compatible equipment
ASTM G81 is one of the few ASTM methods that explicitly standardises use of a laboratory jaw crusher as the wear-test apparatus, distinct from general aggregate sample-reduction practices.
